Atrius Health recently hosted a forum with Congressman Seth Moulton (D-Mass) at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Peabody to discuss the state’s opioid crisis, along with more than 40 other health care providers serving patients in the North Shore.
There was a robust discussion among the providers in the meeting, who offered their suggestions and discussed concerns in treating patients with pain, but also in treating patients with behavioral health and substance abuse issues.
Dr. Jacob Kagan, Director of Behavioral Health, who has a specialty in addiction medicine and practices at the Peabody site, expressed difficulties for patients accessing treatment for substance abuse disorders as well as challenges clinicians face in dealing with health insurance companies. Among several of the suggestions offered by Dr. Kagan and others during the hour-long forum included:
“We were thrilled to have the opportunity to host this important forum from the perspective of clinicians who are on the front lines in fighting the opioid addiction problem and to offer concrete suggestions to Congressman Moulton and his staff on how Congress might be able to assist in our fight here in Massachusetts,” said Dr. William Boyd, Senior Vice President of the North Region. “We are hoping to continue this dialogue with Congressman Moulton along with our entire Congressional delegation as we work collectively to address this important issue.”
Also participating during the meeting were representatives from the Massachusetts Medical Society including President Dr. Dennis Dimitri; Lahey Health along with Lynn Community Health Center.
