A number of Atrius Health representatives from VNA Care Network & Hospice and VNA of Boston participated in last week’s Home Care Advocacy Day at the State House hosted by the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.
The annual Advocacy Day provided an opportunity for VNA Care Network & Hospice and VNA of Boston staff to meet with legislators and staff members to highlight the value of home care as an integral part of the health care system and to discuss priorities in the budget and legislation.
Kathy Keough, Government Relations Manager for Atrius Health, led the delegation to meetings and was joined by Jane Woodbury, Karen Chirsky, Jeanne Callahan-Lyson, Jennifer Casper and Vicky Lasczak.
The Advocacy Day kicked off with a welcome from Senator Patricia Jehlen (the Alliance’s 2014 Legislator of the Year) and an issue briefing for legislators and their staffers presented by James Fuccione, Director of Legislative and Public Affairs for the Alliance. The afternoon included visits with Senators Joan Lovely, Kenneth Donnelly, Bruce Tarr, William Brownsberger, Karen Spilka and Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante.
Among the issues discussed during meetings with legislators and staff were:
In addition, the Atrius Health delegation advocated for passage of Senate Bill 1042 that would allow orders by out of state physicians. This is of particular interest for physicians who are practicing in bordering states.
