National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week is a time to celebrate and thank all of our nursing colleagues for their dedication. We recognize the significant contributions nurses make in keeping our patients healthy.

Nurses play a critical role in improving patient outcomes, coordinating care and decreasing costs. The Affordable Care Act and the Institute of Medicine’s “Future of Nursing” Report have placed nurses in the center of health care transformation, strengthening prevention and wellness efforts which are reflected in our work at Harvard Vanguard. We recognize the hard work, passion, commitment and patient engagement that happens every day throughout Harvard Vanguard.

As Dr. Gene Lindsey, President and CEO of Atrius Health and Harvard Vanguard, recently stated in a letter to the organization about our nurses, “Never before have we seen so clearly how much you do and how much more you will do as you are given the opportunity to lead and contribute in ways that have never before been imagined. All of the innovative and promising care models of the future recognize the ability of nursing to improve the health of our patients and imagine an ever-expanding role for nursing.”

We would also like to congratulate the nurses who were recognized by patients in the 2012 Boston Globe Salute to Nurses:

Helen Dajer, CNM – Post Office Square Obstetrics & Gynecology

Jane Hammond, NP – Wellesley Internal Medicine

Sarah Kucala, NP – Quincy Internal Medicine

Pamela Smith, RN – Kenmore Hematology/Oncology
