It’s that time of year again – flu season is coming!  Harvard Vanguard practice sites continue to receive shipments of flu vaccine and will schedule appointments for seasonal flu vaccination as long as supply lasts.

We have a flu home page and several pages linked to it that provide lots of useful information and are intended to help you stay informed during the 2011-2012 Influenza season. A key page to visit is the 2011-2012 Influenza Vaccination Program Schedule, which lists practices that have the flu vaccine available, the hours for appointments (or walk-in clinics if offered), and the direct phone numbers to call to schedule appointments.  We will update this page as necessary, so be sure to check back regularly for any new information.

The CDC recommends the flu vaccination for everyone age 6 months or older, and especially for high risk groups, including children under the age of 6; adults 50 and over; anyone who has a chronic illness such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and people with compromised immune systems; and pregnant women.  For pregnant women, the flu vaccine is the single best way to avoid getting influenza, which can cause serious health problems.

Additionally, Dr. Benjamin Kruskal, pediatrician and Director of Infection Control at Harvard Vanguard, has provided some excellent tips and answers to frequently-asked questions so you and your family can prepare for and safely navigate this year’s flu season.
